The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of the larger countries in Africa with a total land mass of 2,345,410 sq km. Due to its size, shape and location within the African continent, this is the only country in Africa which is divided into 2 time zones. All other countries in Africa fall within 1 time zone.

The western part of the country is located in the Western Africa time zone and is UTC/GMT +1 hour. This includes the provinces of Bandundu, Bas–Congo, Équateur and Kinshasa.

The eastern part of the country is located in the Central Africa time zone and is UTC/GMT +2 hours. This includes the provinces of Kasaï–Occidental, Kasaï–Oriental, Katanga, Maniema, Nord–Kivu, Oriental and Sud–Kivu.
